Please don’t worry - no dragons were harmed in the making of this product! There are several types of Dragon’s Blood made from different plants around the world. The one we have for sale comes from the croton lecheri plant of South America, and is also known by its Spanish name “sangre de grado”. It is collected by ‘tapping’ the tree to withdraw the sap. It’s name comes from it’s blood-colouring. Our Dragon’s Blood is taken from trees which are not cut down.

When applied to a wound it has hemostatic action (stops the flow of blood like an instant scab) and an astringent effect (contracting the tissues). It contains both collagen and an alkaloid called taspine which accelerates the healing of the skin. It also has antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral properties and so acts as a natural antiseptic. All in all it is said to around quadruple the speed of the healing of the wound. This makes it perfect as a first-aid jungle medicine, and is used widely around the world for sealing up Kambô skin holes.

Dragon’s Blood is not just used for wounds, though. The latex liquid contains anti-tumour alkaloids (pyridone aporphine indole, quinoline and tropanes) and unsaturated fatty acids. It is used by some people to help with varicose ulcers, decubitus, reducing diarrhoea, enhancing the immune system, strengthening the immune system, reducing IBS, treating acne, enhancing skin health and enhancing hair growth. For internal conditions, a few drops of Dragon’s Blood can be drunk in a glass a water each day.
